Nickel City Tops is proud to introduce an example of skillful craftsmanship which follows a
timeless design axiom. The best toys are the ones your Dad made for you. At a company called Casey Machine, a dad named Peter made a toy for his daughter and her kindergarten class.
Casey Machine Company is a precision component manufacturer for the aerospace and pharmaceutical industries. When the kindergarten class decided to tour Casey Machine, we needed to think of something different to give the children. Everyone decided to make Casey Machine into Santa’s Secret Workshop. A decision was made to give the children a spinning top as a keepsake.
The tops are cut from a single piece of turned bar stock. The lines are clean and sharp; illustrating visually and physically how form indeed follows function.
Ever since the first one came off the lathe, everyone at Casey Machine has been pretty proud of their accomplishment. They have been known to try out the products on their lunch breaks. Nobody ever plays with the aileron made for Boeing 747 anymore; but they can spin a top for close to three minutes with one spin! There has been some talk of longer lunch breaks.
As you probably guessed, this isn’t like anything Casey Machine has done before. Luckily for Kaitlin’s kindergarten class, her dad worked at a manufacturing plant that helped make Santa’s extra toys! The craftsmen at Casey Machine are proud of what they do, and where they do it! They gave the tops a name, Nickel City Tops, to let people know where they are manufactured. If you haven’t guessed it yet; the top was founded, in Buffalo, New York!
